![]() Baseline serum uric acid levels significantly predicted the change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Baseline serum uric acid levels are directly proportional to the rate of decline in renal function in patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN), researchers reported online ahead of print in International Urology and Nephrology. In a study of 93 IgAN patients by Ali Bakan, MD, of Goztepe Training and Research Hospital, Istanbul Medeniyet University in Istanbul, Turkey, and colleagues, baseline serum uric acid levels significantly predicted the change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) after adjusting for various potential confounders, including age, gender, blood pressure, baseline albumin concentrations and use of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers. |
